Jonathan Livingston Seagull

“They are saying in the Flock that if you are not the Son of the Great Gull Himself”, Fletcher told Jonathan one morning after Advanced Speed Practice, “then you are a thousand years ahead of your time.”
Jonathan sighed. The price of being misunderstood he thought. They call you devil or they call you god. “What do you think, Fletch? Are we ahead of our time?”
A long silence, “Well, this kind of flying has always been here to be learned by anyone who wanted to discover it; that’s got nothing to do with time. We’re ahead of the fashion, maybe. Ahead of the way that most gulls fly.”“That’s something,” Jonathan said, rolling to glide inverted for a while. “That’s not half as bad as being ahead of our time”.

The Coming of Wolf

From: http://www.universeofsymbolism.com/wolf-symbolism.html

Mystical Powers and Secrets of Wolf Symbolism...

As the supreme hunter of the forest, Wolf power animal teaches us how to find the resources we need, to be resourceful and to use the resources wisely, to keep moving forward, to keep evolving.  Wolf symbolism and totem teaches us to assess each situation and adapt as needed, always ready ... always prepared.

Wolf spirit animal is so very intuitive that he can sense your movements ~ anticipating your every move, he reads your mind as he is telepathic, you can learn this by bonding with his energy.

Wolf symbolizes the meaning of freedom, he is free to roam the vast valleys and mountains of the forest, he is capable of shape~shifting and walking the Spirit realm, he can teach us how to do the same.

Wolf is a great teacher, he is loyal and loving to his family, the family hunts together with exquisite intuitive abilities they move together as one.  As a family, there is order within the pack, each shows tremendous discipline, and there is much delight in playing with the young pups.  All of the wolves in the pack protect and guard the family.

Wolf symbolism and meaning can teach keen intuition and can help you see and sense the unseen, having a deep awareness and perception of all that is around.  The wolf can sense people and other animals for many miles around, he knows his terrain well.  Wolf totem medicine of perception appears now to teach you how to discern others as you tap into inner wisdom, strength and the realm of beyond what is seen, knowing what is best for you and what to avoid.

John Tavener: Prayer of The Heart - Bjork

The Universe - Alive!

Father Sun shines out his Loving Light,
Lover Earth looks on and holds him in her gaze,
Their child the Moon was the gift they received,
Created from these two great Beings through the Love they share.

The Moon in her cradle looks on,
Balanced at the centre point,
She reflects her Father's Light into her Mother's eyes,
Following her own path of the heart.

True love between this family of Angelic Beings,
Their joy in creation and growth, development and evolution,
Entangled in the energy they share.

The stars sparkle in the heavens above,
Other Suns, Other Earths, Other Moons,
Other family and friends,
Galaxies of swirling flowing forms,
Expressing joy in fulfilling their own creativity,
Sending out Light to form other worlds.

And humanity stands together now,
Holding hands on clear nights,
Soul Families,
Gaze up and shed tears of joy and love,
Because of the harmony and beauty of it all,

The Universe - Alive!
A Loving, evolving Organism!

This poem was inspired by the Biologist and Philosopher Rupert Sheldrake and his question:
"Does the Sun think?"

A Birthday Trip to Glendalough

I was drawn to Glendalough - every so often, I get a yearning to go there (it's only 45 mins from home in the Wicklow hills and is such a special place). The weather was so, so windy...

As I walked down towards the lake, I was being buffeted by the wind and I noticed the fact that most of the leaves had gone from the trees, though not all - a surprising number still clinging on despite (or to spite) the wind. I began to wonder about the wind and the trees and the leaves and began to make internal - external connections...

The wind was somehow an outward expression of the energy that's been flowing around in me the last few years. I felt the wind represented my breath, the energy within. Sometimes unruly, buffeting me, challenging me to stay in balance, or even gain some balance. I looked again at the trees.... they had shed most of their leaves, but not all in the whirling dervish of the wind...this surprised me, but then I began to go deeper into the mystery...

When I looked into the trees further and focused on the leaves, I realised that this external vision of golds and yellows and browns and oranges and reds and all hues in between of leaves clinging to trees and trees releasing leaves was about me releasing attachments to things that I've put energy into over many years. About releasing, slowly and with thanks and blessing the old energy.

A huge amount of the tree's energy goes into producing the leaves and, in turn, the leaves repay the gift by creating energy from the sunlight for the tree. Then the tree, in the Autumn, withdraws the energy that is left and gradually, slowly releases the leaves.

It is not an active giving away, a violent prising, but a natural release. The leaves have served their purpose, now they are released in an act of blessing to fertilise the soil and so the cycle continues. But, even in this wind, not all the leaves leave immediately. There are some tight attachments that remain, but they too will have their time for release.

I felt I understood something more about nature and more about myself and where I am right now. I'm releasing those things that have provided me with energy in the past and that have served me well. There are some attachments remaining, but those things too will be released when the time is right, when the tendrils that bind them to me dissipate and dissolve. I don't have to actively work at changing myself into something new in a mechanical way, for the transformation is organic. It occurs in due course. In time. With patience. In cycles that come and go and flow within and without. Like trees blessing leaves as they release them.

Next spring, the trees will awaken from their slumbers and the new shoots will spring forth. The new leaf buds will peep out fresh faced into the warm winds of spring, caressing them into the damp early morning light and the new cycle will begin again as they grow and develop and once again enliven the life of the tree.

A dance of love performed at the centre of the polarities between leaving and arriving, of coming and going, a creative tension that brings forth new shoots! Like this dance of ours with words and the feelings between within and beyond the words.

It is now Autumn, going into winter, but the spring will come again and new life will appear. It may look the same, but it will also be very different. And so we in our wondrous ways will be the same, but different next spring.

Spider spirit animal

Spider spirit animal: Symbol of creativity

In many cultures, the spider is given credit for its ability to weave intricate webs that are a miracle of organic engineering. If you have the spider as an animal spirit guide, you may have an affinity with acts of creation and the ability to create delicate, intricate things or ideas that are also strong.
As the weaver of the web, the spider symbolizes the spirit of creation. In several traditions, she’s the totemic symbol of the Mother, strong feminine energy. In Ancient Egypt, the spider was used as a symbol to represent the goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith. In some American Indian tribes, it is considered as the symbol for the creator of the world and by extension is associated with the female creative energy.

Patience: The wisdom of the spider totem

Like the spider waiting her prey patiently, the presence of this spirit animal in your life could point to the need to show patience regarding a project or some ideas that you are trying to realize. Giving some time while paying attention to how events are unfolding and acting when the opportunity truly arise might be a lesson of wisdom from the spider spirit animal.

Symbolism of the spider: Life spirit and weaver of destiny

Just like the spider weaves her beautifully engineered web, this spirit animal fosters the integration of all parts and aspects of your life into a whole. When the spider shows up in your life, this spirit animal could guide you to integrate some piece of your personal “puzzle” and gain a more coherent perspective on your life.
The spider is a spirit animal whose purpose is to inspire you to gain perspective on an issue or project you contemplate taking on. Feel free to explore the many facets of the problem you are facing in order to find the appropriate solution. The power of this animal encourages you to count on your ability to view things from multiple angles and weave mental and intuitive flexibility into your daily thinking.

Velvet Paradise

There we played,
Behind the rose bushes,
At the beginning of time,
Living a dream,
Living dreams.

All day long flickering our eyes,
To a world that wasn't there,
To a world that didn't care,
About adults and cruelty.

An innocent place,
Where we could live out our dreams,
Live a dream.

There we knew the trees would never be bare,
We could crawl along roads,
Un-metalled by the drawbacks of worry.

And hide behind walls,
In the velvet paradise,
Within our minds.

Written sometime 1986-1990. This one I guess is about the innocence of childhood, perhaps lost innocence too and escapism to a safe, comfortable place...a velvet paradise.

Web of Wonder

Credit: http://wallpaperswide.com/wet_spider_web_2-wallpapers.html

I watch her through the window
As she weaves her web of wonder,
Early in the morning before we're awake,
Flowing with the silk,
Strands stretched from without to within,
Her feet are like a dancer's.
 Translating melody into form,
Immersed in the music,
She finds her healing heart.

This poem was written in October 2013. A garden spider was weaving a web outside our kitchen window one morning. I loved watching her weave her web over and over again - such a delicate artisan. She made this her home for weeks and weaved and re-weaved patiently over and over again. It struck me that her web represented the web of relationships that we humans need with kindred spirits and soul mates in order to feel fulfilled in life and to find healing!  Thich Nhat Han says that one of the most important things in life is to find your sanga. Your community. Your support network of like-minded souls.

The Healing Journey

Healing requires embarking on a journey along previously untrammeled paths, so that the unconscious becomes conscious. It requires the raising of consciousness, an expansion of awareness, so that we see the world with different eyes. We see the world anew.

Crises in our lives offer us an opportunity to evolve in new directions and to create new versions of ourselves, so that we can explore new pathways that we would not otherwise have taken if things had stayed the same.

Healing occurs when we connect with the deepest aspects of ourselves in our hearts. We can then meet with our deepest fears, feelings and emotions, which also lead us to connect more fully with our bodies and with the world. For we are our bodies and we are the world, since we are creative participants in the world. The world does not consist of objects and events from which we are separated. It is often feelings of disconnection, fragmentation and loneliness that are the causes of our dis-ease(s). We create our bodies and we create the world. We give to the world and we receive from the world. We are distinct, unique and fundamental parts of the collective world soul.

When we seek healing, we move deeper into the silence of our yearning for peace with ourselves, for coherence, for harmony and connection with All That Is. We connect with ourselves and thereby open ourselves up to receive the wisdom of the world soul, which speaks to our hearts clearly when we are calm and present so that we can truly listen to the messages and meanings in every moment. We find a still place, within which there is clarity, focus, joyous feelings and a clear vision about who we are and where we are going. We then are blessed to move deeper into connection with our souls, with the world and with ourselves.  We can then truly heal and be healed.

Win Green

Peace is here,
Where wisdom is.

Within the wind,

Where love lifts us up,
Above these hills,
We soar,
Amidst the sounds of the skylarks.

And the love in our smiles,
Is higher than ever,
Than ever before,
When we were simply friends.

Hold me,
Rest your head on my shoulder,
And listen to the bliss,
Of the wind rustling the bushes.

Written during Easter 1988 following a visit with my girlfriend to Win Green near Shaftesbury in Dorset.

When Shadows Danced

When shadows danced on your walls,
Each was like a line from a poem,
Created from our dreams,
We reached up to grasp the words,
Before they could disappear forever,
We accepted each gift as the moonlight flickered,
Through billowing curtains,
And still the waves fell upon us,
And wisdom bathed us in its light.

A humble guest

Remember...
You are not here to attempt to master nature,
You are here as her humble guest.

Inner Creativity

Your inner creativity needs to be expressed,
To be made manifest.

Suppress your creativity,
And you stifle your soul.

Play as children play,
Express your creativity naturally,
Spontaneously,
Then you will know pure joy.

A Body of Thoughts

Your thoughts feelings and emotions,
Weave themselves together,
Entwined,
They form your body,
An expression of who you really are.

One Who Sits Alone

There is one who sits alone,
Under the tree.

It looks like he stares into the distance,
Towards the horizon.

And indeed he does,
But he also stares within.

I Sit in Solitude

I sit in solitude on the beach,
In the silent early morning,
To listen to the stirrings of my heart,
And the voice of love,
Who whispers in my ear.

There is joy as the sun rises,
At the boundary of sea and sky,
Its light nourishing my body and soul.

And now,
A feeling of tears welling up,
And of humble understanding.

In the silence the secrets spring forth,
Revealing themselves,
As the vortex of violet and golden light pulses and swirls at my brow,
And the white light drips down,
Filling me with the pure, blissful light of knowing,
That the Universe is alive,
And so am I.

Science, Nature, Love

Science currently attempts to be absolutely objective.
Cold, distant....

I want to understand nature by immersing myself in it,
By becoming one with nature.

I want to experience the warmth and closeness of nature.
I want to connect with nature.
I want to understand nature from the heart as well as the head.

The only way to truly comprehend nature,
Is to truly comprehend love.

I Met An Angel

I met an Angel,
Who laughed and smiled!

And with absolute faith and conviction,
She said to me,
"All will be well,
I know it"!

She seems so familiar I thought,
Maybe I've known her before,
In another life?

And we talked about science and philosophy,
And the nature of reality.

And the evening was filled with Magic!

Do You Ever?

Looking east to the sunrise above the Irish sea from Whiterock beach, Killiney, Dublin.

Do you ever stop?
Do you ever stand still for a while?
Do you ever notice how clouds part silently for sunbeams?

Too Much Noise

Too much noise
Empty noise
Try to be with you
All noise

People, kids, cars
Withdraw my mind

Peace of darkness
Stars flickering
Quiet wind whispering
A duet with the tide
Audible, but humanly unfathomable
A gentle peace
Natural

Your noise
With you
At last!

Lying back
Listening to the sweetest sound of
Nothing

But everything

I wrote this in the late 1980s. Our house was often busy and there was a tension in the atmosphere there owing to my Dad's illness. There was often the noise of traffic outside too. I used to retreat into my bedroom for some peace This was probably one of my first attempts to meditating...trying to find some peace and quite within and actually achieving it (for once!).

Searching

Lost myself inside my head
Searching for a place somewhere I can call a bed
Think I've been here once before
But I lost myself then I'm sure

Picking up pebbles by a stream
All of them dreams of what I could have been
Packing them in cases to send to the moon
Now I've only nightmares preaching impending doom

Touring a forest of cardboard trees
Each one taunting me of past iniquities
Messages scrawled to tell me how to live
Oh God! How can I tell myself 'forgive'?

Wish I could find just where I am
One day I'll escape from here to another land
But first I've got to unearth this hidden sign
So that one day I can take over someone else's mind

Written in the late 1980's. This one is about cycles of self doubt (in this and other lives?) , the fear of unfulfilled dreams, the limiting effects of past events and the search for stability and contentment. Do I want to escape from myself or the situation I'm in or both? And whose mind is it that I need to take over? I don't know.....I know I should forgive..myself...others? But how?

Be Patient

Photo: Killiney beach Dublin Dec 18, 2012

Be patient my child
For the time is now
In which the changes come.

So much change
So fast.

It is important that you stay centred and grounded
Take time out of the game
To rest, relax and renew.

Breathe in the healing energies
Of the new light.

Be patient.

All is well.

Animal Totems: Seagull

Seagulls are spiritual messengers that demonstrate that a higher communication with guides is taking place. He shows how to see above situations with a higher clarity and teaches that there are many perspectives to consider. Seagull shows a sense of friendship and community and the cooperation that is needed for the whole to operate successfully. He teaches how to ride the currents of the mental, emotional and physical worlds. Are you going with the flow or fighting it? Are you cooperating with others? Are you open to your guides? Seagull can teach you many lessons of looking, living and being. It is time to listen and watch for the nuances and timing of action.

A new state of oneness (for 2013)!

To thine own self be true,
The most important thing is to be honest to yourself,
To be true to yourself,
To be unfailingly and consistently yourself in all situations,
To be balanced and healthy - in harmony with everything and everyone around you,
To be open,
An open book,
But also to be discerning.

Be the person you are here to be,
A prayerful and meditative person
Aiming for the ever elusive goal of mastery :)
Be You!
It's who you are!
Your time is now.

With love and blessings for 2013!
